Trapped: There are lots of clues in the opening sequence that suggest that Lester Burnham is trapped. He is behind bars when his image is reflected in the computer screen, he is locked in the shower, looking out of the window at his wife, he is made to wear slippers which shows that he is probably trapped by his wife, he was trapped in the shadows when asleep and was trapped in the back of a car like a child.
His wife also seems to be in control of him and is acting like the man (stereotypically).
-She drives the car
-She is first ready
-She's the one organising everything
The music is like a motif as it is repeated throughout the opening sequence.
The colours used in the opening are fairly neutral and boring which links into Lester Burnham being quite a boring person. The colours red, white and blue are used throughout.
