Key Terms

  • Vertical integration - same company does multiple things, eg production and distribution - working title
  • Above the line marketing -  marketing you have to pay for - trailers on TV, trailers on the cinema, posters, website , youtube advertising
  • Below the line marketing - Viral marketing, interviews with the actors, reviews
  • Synergy marketing -  2 companies working together to advertise something - coca cola and Shreck
  • Merchandising - Offering toys, costumes and other goods related to the film
  • Viral marketing - word of mouth, people tell everyone - facebook, twitter
  • Budget - low 1 million, mid range - 20 million large 60 million
  • Conglomerate - a group of small companies owned by a larger one
  • Subsidiary - small company owned by a bigger one 
  • DSN - gorup of cinemas having digital screens to aid independant companies
  • Digital distribution - Digital copy of a film
  • 35mm reels- tradition films where they are stored
  • Piracy - people filming in cinema / people leaking films on the internet with digital films
  • Niche audience - small audience
  • Technological convergence - computer generated images
  • Blanket release - where a film is released across all cinemas in a country at the same time 
  • Government grants - funding from government, cut at the minute
  • Tax schemes - low corporation tax for firms making films
  • Tax sheltering - not taxing these firms
